A synopsis of my life: moved across the street from the roller coaster in Santa Cruz, when I was 17. Began working at Otto’s, a surfboard rental across the street from the wharf, where I glassed surfboards. Joined the Army in January of 68, landed in Vietnam in June, where I served as a Point Man for the 1st Ranger Battalion, Headquarters Company Recon. From operating in the Michelin Rubber Plantation, to the jungles of the Mekong Delta, my last station was the farthest southern American outpost in South Vietnam. While in the Army I received 3 MOS’s (Military Occupational Specialty), which is very rare for a two year enlistee; Combat infantry, artillery gunner, and Instructor. I was also offered West Point, which I turned down because that would effect my future surfing career, haha – I just wanted to surf and my mother never forgave me for that. After the service, I became a journeyman carpenter, shoe maker, sandal manufacturer, surf shop owner, surfboard maker, film maker – documentaries and short films on community TV, assisting in documentaries, which featured myself and lastly “Christmas”, which went from making Christmas displays to collecting historical pieces, from as far back as 1755, which includes the first Christmas ornaments ever made, to a rare collection of Christmas books: two of them being the only known copies in existence, sleighs from the 1800’s and more.
